This may be the most important lesson in the book. It means the place is better off for your having been there, and if you work with children it means each one leaves you happier or more confident or more capable than they arrived. I have passed through institutions and left nothing behind, so I know how easily that happens. Lately I have been thinking about the families who will be at my camp in forty years, and that I work for them too.
