When a child or a co-worker does the same maddening thing for the tenth time, I picture a coin. Frustration is on one face and mentorship is on the other. Turning it over is not easy in the moment, but it does take away the helplessness, because mentoring is something you can actually do. The jammed copier and the ignored garbage can both respond better to teaching than to fuming.
