Lesson 15 of 50 · In brief

Create a Shared Vocabulary

Every camp I have visited has its own language, and that is not an accident. Naming a thing makes it part of the culture, whether the thing is a brutal skating drill or a standard of behavior nobody wants to write out in full. The catch is that language can lock people out as easily as it lets them in. Teaching the words to new people is part of the job.

This is the short version. The full lesson, with the story behind it, is in the book.

The book has all fifty, with room to breathe.
